Glitter Gold Pigment Powder

Introduction
Coloured Micas which is their popular name or Pearlescents as they are also called, are beautiful natural colours that are created by coating muscovite mica flakes with high heat resistant iron oxides, ultramarines (referred to as nature identical) or dyes.

What Is Natural
Natural is a word that is often used to describe products or ingredients. The definition of natural according to the English Oxford Dictionary meansexisting in or derived from nature; not made or caused by humankind. Coloured micas are made from ingredients formed from mineral rocks and we can probably all agree that rock from the Earth is natural. Of course to put these crushed rocks onto your face or in your cosmetic products without refining and purifying them first would be totally irresponsible practise not to mention extremely painful!

How Are Coloured Micas Formed?
They must go through a complex manufacturing process involving mica flakes, occasionally titanium dioxide and iron oxides or ultramarines depending on the end colour, to become the stunning colours that we have all come to know and love. For cosmetic use, coloured micas must then go through an extra process to refine and purify them even further which brings them to cosmetic grade standards for use in all products defined as cosmetic.

What Can Coloured Micas Be Used In?
They are used in a wide variety of applications including decorative paints such as for car paintwork, wonderful effects can be achieved on the artists canvas as well as caligraphy. They are also used in card making, candle making (normally to decorate the surface) and of course cosmetics including soaps.

Cosmetic grade coloured micas are most famously known for their use in mineral makeup and are the preferred choice for colouring mineral eyeshadows, lip products, blushers, etc. They are also used by nail enthusiasts in nail polish and have gained incredible popularity as a natural alternative to colour soaps.

Are All Coloured Micas The Same?
No. The colour range of coloured micas can cover the whole spectrum and beyond! Within that spectrum, you will then find certain colours can be metallic in nature, others iridescent, there are colour shifters as in chameleon and so many more. Then there is the system for size grading of coloured micas and in fact most mineral ingredients, this is done in microns. With coloured micas, generally the lower the micron size, the more inclined they will be to shimmer rather than sparkle and the coverage will be heavier. The higher the micron size the more sparkle they will have and less coverage.

To Dye Or Not To Dye
Coloured micas coated with artificial dyes can bleed somewhat in soap, so when buying coloured micas for soap making, it is always best to check with your supplier on which type of micas they stock.

We choose not to stock coloured micas containing artificial dyes as we prefer to keep our products as close to natural as we possibly can.

Coloured Micas In Cosmetics
Add them singularly to pre-mixed eyeshadow bases forstunning eyeshadows or make up your own tailor madecolour blendby mixing a few together. They are notlimited to eyeshadows either, some of the more muted pinks, lilacs, peachesandbrowns can be added to blusher bases to give a very pretty effect.

Theycan also be used as eyeliners, just dampen your eyeliner brush, tip a little out of your container into the lid or on to the back of your hand, dip in and draw as simple as that! Remember, not to dip your wet brush into any containers of mineral powders, tip a little out firstand use.

Either way, in formulating mineral makeup we need these beauties like an artist needs his palette!

Note:It is important to remember that you should never grind your coloured micas unless you want them to lose their lustre.

Coloured micas are very sparkly and when used in M&P their vibrancy and sparkle is magnified even more. When mixed into the opaque batter in cold process soap they loose much of their sparkle but still retain their colour but less saturated. When used to decorate the surface, using many popular techniques such as mica oil swirls, our colours will really make your products stand out from the crowd.

The coloured micas that you see in this categoryare the most popular colours used regularly in CP soap by our wonderful community of soapers.

Black Seed Oil Virgin

Black seed oil is extracted from seeds which come from a plant scientifically calledNigella sativa, and also referred to as fennel flower, nutmeg flower, and Roman coriander. An annual flowering plant, its native to south and southwest Asia, growing from about 8-12 inches tall. Flowers have 5-10 feathery petals and are usually pale blue and white. Balloon-like pods hold the seeds. These open in the shape of a five-pointed star, and over time, the seeds change from a pale colour to black as they dry and mature.

Black Seed Oil Benefits

Black seed oilhas long been taken internally to help improve the condition of hair, skin, and nails. We now know that we can get a number of the same benefits by applying the oil topically. The one that really sticks out as being different from many other plant ingredients is the oils powerful ability to restore the natural health and vitality of skin.

Ascorbic Acid

Active form of vitamin C as it occurs naturally. 99% pure (USP/FCC grade). pH 3 (0.5 % solution). White powder, ultra-fine, odorless. Easily soluble in water & alcohol.

Potent antioxidant (shown to be able to protect skin from oxidative damages). Can improve appearance of aged and fragile skin. Widely used as add-on ingredient in skin-lightening products to correct hyper pigmentation and age spots. Antioxidant effect can be increased by combining L-ascorbic acid with L-ascorbyl palmitate and/or vitamin E.

Used in Lotions, creams, sun care & after sun products, shampoos, makeup products (e.g. lipsticks).

Does not contain animal-derived components

Ascorbic Acid

99% L-Ascorbic Acid, USP, Ultrafine powder is a water solubleantioxidant. Ascorbic acid, a potent, naturally occurringantioxidantis an important constituent of skin. It plays a pivotal role in the prevention of dry skin and wrinkles, collagen synthesis and skin regeneration. Ascorbate is found in all layers of the skin, but is more concentrated in the epidermis than the dermis. However, it is readily depleted by about two thirds incutaneoustissue stores with exposure to UV light. Biochemically, the body relies on ascorbate in the collagen biosynthetic pathway. It functions as a cofactor for two enzymes, lysyl and prolyl hydroxylases. These are dependent on iron and Ascorbic acid prevents iron oxidation and thus inactivation of these hydroxylases, thereby maintaining their activity.

Ascorbic acid has been shown to be effective in increasing collagen deposits and also enhancing collagen lattice contractions, implying thatexogenous.Ascorbic acid application contributes to strengthening the collagen framework and maintaining a healthy dermis. Topical application of Ascorbic acid has been shown to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Caused by mechanisms supporting collagen production, this leads to improving the appearance of the skin. It has further been proven to reduce the severity of sunburns and age spots.

Cutaneouslevels of Ascorbic acid cannot be achieved well by ingestion, hence topical application is essential for preventing oxidative damage resulting from pollution, smoke and sunlight. Its use has been shown to increase generation of stratum corneum barrier lipids and stabilize lipid profiles, in particular glucosphingolipids and ceramides.

The difficulty for the cosmetic formulator is that L-Ascorbic Acid is very unstable inaqueoussolutions, as it starts to oxidize immediately, gradually producing color changes (orange/brown shift) and a reduction in activity as it converts to dehydroascorbic acid. For cosmetic use, it is best stabilized in an anhydrous lipid or silicone base, although some have reported increased stability with the use of Ferulic Acid as part ofaqueousformulations. This product is an ultrafine powder, ready to use in anhydrous formulations without further grinding.

Our L-Ascorbic Acid meets USP specifications, but it is considered a cosmetic grade material once we repackage it.

This is a cosmetic raw material and is meant for external use only in cosmetic formulations. As with all of our materials, it should not be taken internally.

Shelf Life:The manufacturers stated best use date is two years from date of manufacture, if the container is unopened and stored away from heat, light and air. Over time, constant opening and closing of the container will eventually deplete the ability of the dessicant pack to adsorb moisture and the oxygen absorbent to absorb oxygen and allow the l-ascorbic acid to adsorb the moisture in the air and, in the presence of oxygen, it will begin to oxidize. This will be noticeable as it takes on a yellow color in solution.

Xanthan Gum

Xanthan Gum is an excellent natural source thickener for lotions, creams, liquid soap, shower gels, body washes and shampoos.

In cosmetics Xanthan gum is used to prepare water gels, it is also used in oil-in-water emulsions to help stabilize the oil droplets against coalescence and because it has some skin hydrating properties.

Powder Appearance: White to light Yellow Brown

Odor: mild odor bland

pH: Not available

Xanthan/Xantham Gum

Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide made by the bacteria Xanthomonas camprestris. When this bacteria is placed into a culture containing carbohydrates, the fermentation process begins, and Xanthan Gum is produced as a by-product. Once Xanthan gum is formed, its isolated, dried and processed into a fine powder. Carbohydrates used to make Xanthan Gum usually come from soy, wheat or corn.

It is especially suited to Cosmetic use as the thickening is stable and temperature resistant.

The special formulation thickens with ease and blends well with other surfactants, emulsifiers, essential oils, fragrances, colourings and helps suspend particles. The particle suspension ability, makes Xanthan Gum especially useful for exfoliant formulations.

Usage

Xanthan gum is usually used between 0.1% and 0.5%.

It can be dispersed into water and must be blended by creating a Vortex in the water then gently sprinkling the Xanthan Gum into the water. The easiest and most effective option however is to blend Xanthan Gum into Glycerin, where it will make a paste that can easily be dispersed into water. Xanthan Gum should be added to cream based formulations to the water component and is resistant to heat, so can then be heated and combined with oil.

Xanthan gum is widely used inShower Gel, Shampoo, Face Wash, Moisture Lotion, Moisture Cream

Xanthan gum, also referred to as xantham gum is a natural food and cosmetic additive. Xanthan gum is found in salad dressings and cosmetics and is often used as a stabilizer to stop ingredients from separating. Xantham gum is produced by the fermentation of sucros, glucos or lactose from the growth with alcohol. The product is then dried and processed into a powder. When added to water, xanthan gum is an amazing thickener. It is for this reason that bulk quantities of xantham gum is used worldwide.

Perhaps the most important use of xanthan gum is its ability to add an amazing amound of viscosity to most water based solutions. Often, less than one percent wholesale xanthan gum can create a very viscous solution. Another interesting feature is how stable bulk xanthan gum is under a wide ranges of temperatures and Phs. This is important because it lends itself to almost any product. In addition to thickening foods, bulk quantities of xanthan gum is used to thicken drilling mud in drilling applications. Because of its ability to thicken water based solutions, the industrial uses are countless. It is often used to prevent run off in heavy construction jobs. Xantham gum truly is a miracle of science.

Natural Beeswax

Natural Beeswaxis aversatile all-natural product is used in a number of applications including candle-making, formulating cosmetic goods such as lip balms, and even used as polishes or lubricants in industrial applications.

Natural Beeswax

Natural Beeswax is a byproduct ofhoneyproduction. It makes wonderful lip balms, hand lotions, hand creams, moisturizers, in cosmetics, wood finishes, waxes, leather polishes; waterproofing products, and dental molds.
It is impervious to water and unaffected by mildew. It has a melting point of 143 to 148 degrees F. and should only be heated using a double boiler as it is flammable when subjected to fire and flames. It is pliable at 100 degrees F.

Natural Beeswax is produced by the (female) worker honeybees. The wax is secreted from wax glands on the underside of the bees abdomen and is molded into six-sided cells which are filled with honey, then capped with more wax. When honey is harvested, the top layer of wax that covers the cells, the cappings, must be removed from each hexagon-shaped cell.

Bees use propolis ( derived from resins and essential oils from local plants and pine trees ) to glue together the wooden frames in their hive, and that must be scraped off so the frames can be separated. The natural beeswax, which contains some honey, bee parts, and other impurities, must be melted and filtered or strained.
Most natural beeswax is gold or yellow but can also be in shades of orange, brown, etc. The color of the wax is in most part determined by the type of plants the bees collect nectar from. Beeswax has a delightful, light fragrance of honey, flower nectar and pollen.
Beeswax makes superior, slow burning candles. Natural Beeswax burns more beautifully than any other wax. It exudes a faint, natural fragrance of honey and pollen. When candles are made with the proper size of wicking, they are smokeless, dripless, and burn with a bright flame.

If you wonder why natural beeswax is so expensive, consider this: It has been estimated that bees must fly 150, 000 miles to produce one pound of wax. Bees must eat about six pounds of honey to secrete a pound of wax. For every 100 pounds of honey a beekeeper harvests, only one to two pounds of beeswax are produced.

Frankincense Tears

Frankincense tearsconsist of the resin obtained fromBoswellia carter, a species of tree native to Arabia, India and northern Africa. It takes between 8 and 10 years for these small, thorny, shrub-like trees to mature before the milky resin can be hand-harvested

Frankincense is a water/alcohol solubleoleoresins. They are usually the exudates formed on the surface of trees and plants, which we have collected and used as medicine, perfume, incense, adhesives and for many other applications, since time immemorial, across the globe, and in most every human culture. Though we like to call them saps, they differ from the true sap of the tree since they are usually produced by special ducts close to the surface of the tree in response to injury. Saps are usually considered the liquid that the tree produces deeper in itself which carries nutrients between roots and the farthest reaches of the tree. Usually accessed by deep tapping of the tree. Our fragrant oleoresins are sometimes exudednaturally, or more often than not in response to our intentional damaging of the bark to produce a resinous response from the tree to the wounding. Usually this method of encouraging the tree to produce oleoresins does little harm.

Asincense, these oleoresins are burned, alone or in combination with other fragrantnatural materialssuch as powdered barks, flowers andessential oils.In ancient times, hot embers from the fire were used to burn incense resins. Today most cultures around the world use manufacturedcharcoalpucks, made from compressed powdered, partly burnt wood. . In countries where burning oleoresins is a daily tradition, one will find simple and ornate electric burners in most homes.

Frankincense tears (Granules)

Also called olibanum. One of the gifts given to baby Jesus by the Wise Men. Frankincense is a water/alcohol soluble resin. It is much easier to work with frankincense when it is in powder form. In order to do this, freeze the frankincense overnight, and then grind it using a mortar & pestal or an electric grinder. Frankincense will dissolve in water, but will do so more rapidly when placed in boiling water.

Uses:

1. Frankincense can be used as a natural decoration in candle making. Herbs should not be added to candle wax that is actually burned. It can be added to hurricane shells that are never burned, or simply placed around the base of pillars as a decoration. Herbs can, however, be added to candle wax and used as non-burning tarts.
2. Frankincense can be used in many potpourri formulations
3. Frankincense can be ground and used in natural bath tea recipes
4. Frankincense can be ground and used in soap recipes to rejuvenate the skin, treat acne, fight fungal and bacterial infections, and to treat wounds.
5. Frankincense can be used in the formulation of natural infusions.
6. Frankincense can be ground and used in the formulations of perfumes.
7. Frankincense can be ground and used in lotions, creams, and ointments.
8. Frankincense can be ground and used in emulsifying scrubs.
9. Frankincense tears can be burned as incense. Frankincense can be placed in boiling water and the steam inhaled to help reduce sinus and lung congestion.

Glitter Pearl White Mica

Lots of glitter for you. The maximum micron size (150) that may be used in face makeup. Just add a bit of color and you have an eyeshadow with lots of sparkle.

Approved for cosmetic use without restriction.

Micron Size 30-150

Glitter Pearl White Mica

Castor Wax Flakes

Castor Wax is heavily used in the cosmetic industry when a waxy component is needed in a formulation. It also acts as a thickening and moisturizing agent. Examples include eyeliner pencils, anti-antiperspirant sticks, body washes, creams, lotions and lipsticks. Castor wax is also used to make liquid soaps.

Appearance: Solid white flakes with little to no odor.

Product of India

Castor Wax Flakes

Castor Wax also called Hydrogenated castor oil or HCO. The reason why it is called a wax is because the oil turns into hard, brittle and insoluble material that surprisingly has a lot of benefits in the manufacture of different kinds of products.

How Hydrogenated Castor Oil Is Made

First of all, the castor oil is extracted from castor beans. Once the pure castor oil is obtained, hydrogen is added to it in the presence of a nickel catalyst. Because of the exposure to hydrogen, the castor oil becomes highly viscous and gives it a wax-like consistency. In a more detailed sense, the hydrogenation of the oil is done by bubbling hydrogen gas through the oil. This process is also used in fats and oils used in cooking and processed goods. By bubbling the hydrogen through the oil, it slowly becomes thick and opaque. Contrary to castor oil which has a faint odor, the wax is odorless and the process of hydrogenation also works to increase its shelf life.

Hydrogenated Castor Oil Temperature Properties

The castor wax has a melting point of 61 69 degrees Centigrade which is moderately less than the boiling point. Heating the oil beyond these temperatures can cause the castor wax to melt and become liquid again. Once the temperature cools, it will re-harden.

Hydrogenated Castor Oil Cosmetic Uses

This type of castor oil is most commonly used in cosmetics. It is considered to be an organic ingredient since the hydrogenation process makes use of natural hydrogen gas that is mixed with naturally occurring castor beans. This type of castor oil is already approved by the Food and Drug Association, and it has also been assessed by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel. It is said certain concentrations are safe to use on the skin.

Castor wax are commonly used in cosmetics because of their ability to help form emulsions by reducing surface tension of the substances that are to be emulsified. They also help other ingredients dissolve in solvents where they would otherwise not normally dissolve. In the cosmetic world, hydrogenated oils have their role in the production of acne products, deodorant sticks, anti-dandruff shampoos and other types of skin care products.

Other Uses of Castor Wax

There are many other uses of the castor wax for common everyday things. The wax is used in the manufacture of candles, polishes, crayons, grease, electrical capacitors, carbon papers, rubbers, lubricants, sealants, and waxes. It is even safe to use as the paper for food packaging. Because of its highly viscous nature, the oil can be utilized for paints and varnishes.

Castor oil has always been known for its various medical benefits. But apparently, aside from all that, the oil can even be converted into hydrogenated castor oil, a versatile and durable wax that has countless contributions to the production of materials ranging from paper to rubber.

Refined Beeswax Pastilles

High quality, refined beeswax. The perfect raw ingredient for use in your cosmetics and other DIY projects. As the beeswax comes in pellets it is much easier to melt and measure than a bar of wax. White refined beeswax is a versatile product used in a variety of areas around the home from waterproofing to candle making. Beeswax can be heated and reused and rarely goes rancid.

Beeswax Pastilles

Our Beeswax pastilles are cosmetic grade beeswax that have been bleached and filtered to remove any impurities, then shaped into small pellets for easy use. These Beeswax Beads are 100% natural and are refined through physical processes, and no chemicals are used. The natural wax is melted and filtered through active carbon to remove its scent and color, which may vary from white to off-white. These beads are then used in formulations where a cream base or end product is fragrance-free and white in color, but to which color and fragrance can later be added.

Beeswax pastilles can be used in lotions, creams, balms, body butter and even soaps. They provide body and stiffness to formulations and assist as an incomplete emulsifier or thickener.

For candle making, natural beeswax burns cleaner and longer than petroleum-based paraffin waxes. It does not smoke as with petroleum-based paraffin. Made of 100% pure refined beeswax, this slow-burning wax is preferred when making aromatherapy-grade candles.

Caution:The melting point of this wax is between 62and 67C (143to 152F). Overheating thiswill impact its scent and color. Please melt at as low a heat as possible while stirring gently, and use it as soon as it is melted, as it will cook and render poor-quality results such as a cooked or burnt odor, and off-white color.

This product has been fully filtered to remove all debris and results in a clean beeswax material. This versatile all-natural product is used in a number of applications including candle-making, formulating cosmetic goods such as lip balms, and even used as polishes or lubricants in industrial applications. Beeswax blocks are also sought after for their waterproofing capabilities and can be applied topically to outerwear, footwear or furniture for weather protection.

Witch Hazel-Natural-USP

Our Witch Hazel is pure and top quality. It is a 14%Natural Grain Alcoholconcentration which is the typical concentration for premium Witch Hazel. This highly stable liquid product is water, alcohol and glycol soluble and is a great natural base for a multitude of cosmetic formulations. Witch Hazel is easily incorporated in clear formulations as well as many creams and lotions.

Application:

-On skin, dab a cotton ball in the witch hazel and rub onto the affected area.
-For varicose veins, soak towel in witch hazel and put towel onto the affected area for roughly 20-30 minutes a day.

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is an extract from the leaves and bark of the North American shrub Hamamelis virginiana. It has a long history in various folk medicinal treatments. According to Drugs.com, there are more than 30 traditional uses for witch hazel including hemorrhoids, burns, cancers, tuberculosis, colds and fever. Its primary use through the years has been for the treatment of skin conditions, and scientists are just now beginning to understand how it works and how it can benefit the skin.

Anti-inflammatory

One of witch hazels most impressive properties is its anti-inflammatory effects on conditions such as diaper rash, razor burn and bug bites. Inflammation is caused by free radicals in skin cells, and scientists at Japans Shiga Central Laboratory studied 65 plant extracts for their potential anti-inflammatory applications as an anti-aging treatment for skin. Only two of the extracts exhibited active oxygen-scavenging effects and protective activity against cell damage, with one being Hamamelis virginiana.

Antimicrobial

Another traditional use for witch hazel is to soothe poison ivy, treat chicken pox and heal bruises and cuts, all caused or irritated by viruses and bacteria. A German study in 2002, abstracted by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, investigated the antimicrobial activity of a Hamamelis distillate on bacteria and fungi such as Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans and other organisms in vitro. The results showed a significant antimicrobial activity for the witch hazel extract, leading the researchers to conclude that it can be helpful in preventing the bacterial colonization that has a central role in the development of atopic dermatitis and intertrigo dermatitis, as well as other microbial skin conditions.

Astringent

Witch hazel is considered to be a potent astringent due to the high level of tannins in the leaves, according to Drugs.com. The tannins help to tighten skin proteins which then form a protecting covering to help promote skin healing and stop bleeding. This property makes it particularly useful for treating skin conditions like eczema, as well as restoring vessel tone in varicose veins and also soothing hemorrhoids.

Moisturizer

Women frequently use witch hazel to lock moisture into skin. A study at the University Hospital Luebeck Dermatology Department in Germany treated children suffering from skin disorders and injuries with a Hamamelis ointment and found that it was safe and as effective as dexpanthenol. Dexpanthenola is a prescription drug used as a moisturizer to improve hydration of the stratum corneum, or outer skin layer, to reduce water loss from skin and to maintain skin softness and elasticity.

Sun Damage

Another traditional use for witch hazel is to treat sunburn and prevent peeling and flaking. Two separate studies at the BioSkin Institute for Dermatological Research and Development in Germany looked at witch hazels sun-protectant properties. The first, in 1998, treated healthy patients with a 10 percent hamamelis lotion after exposure to UVB doses, and the second, in 2002, treated healthy volunteers with the lotion after exposure to UVA radiation. In both instances, the lotion produced a significant suppression of skin redness or burning on the skin after the radiation exposure.

Activated Charcoal Powder

Activated charcoal is made by manufacturers heating common charcoal in the presence of a gas that causes the charcoal to develop internal spaces or pores that allow activated charcoal to trap chemicals. It is for this reason that activated charcoal is often used to absorb toxic substances.

Activated Charcoal Powder

Activated charcoal, granular activated carbon, granular active carbon all different terms which just so happen to refer to one specific type of charcoal. Or, more accurately, it is charcoal reheated and oxidized, making the charcoal highly porous. Even though charcoal on its own is known for being a fairly porous substance, when oxidized (or, in some cases, carbonized with other inert gases) the amount of porous spaces increases significantly.

Activated Charcoal Uses

One of the common utilizations of this porous carbon is to filter gas. Not as in fuel, but the gaseous substances that are either naturally produced or expelled from various machinery. Take, for example, air filters. Air is technically a gas, and when the air contains impure elements, a purifier in the form of a filter will help remove these impurities. In a slightly different form, the activated charcoal will perform the same function with watera use common in fish tanks.

Activated carbon attracts and holds organic chemicals from vapor and liquid streams cleaning them of unwanted chemicals. It does not have a greatcapacityfor these chemicals, but is very cost effective for treating large volumes of air or water to remove dilute concentrations of contamination.

Can I Make My Own Activated Charcoal?

We would not suggest trying to make your own Activated Charcoal. There are tutorials on the web to do so, but many instructions are unsafe in many ways. One of the reasons to come to a carbon expert is due to the strict testing that goes on before, during and after manufacturing. If you were to make your own charcoal and consume it, sure you may not feel immediate side-effects, but the wrong process could have a long-term negative effect. Why risk your health when one bag could last you a lifetime?

What Is Activated Carbon Made From?
Here at General Carbon, we carry activated carbon made from bituminous coal, lignite coal, coconut shell and wood.

How Is Activated Carbon Made?
There are two different ways to make activated carbon but for this article we will provide you with the more efficient way that will create higher quality and purer activated carbon. Activated carbon is made by being placed in a tank without oxygen and subjecting it to extremely high temperatures, 600-900 degrees Celsius. Afterwards, the carbon is exposed to different chemicals, commonly argon and nitrogen, and again placed in a tank and superheated from 600-1200 degrees Celsius. The second time the carbon is placed in the heat tank, it is exposed to steam and oxygen. Through this process, a pore structure is created and the usable surface area of the carbon greatly increases.

Mono Propylene Glycol USP

Propylene glycol USP/EP(pharmaceutical grade) is the only grade appropriate for this application due to its handling practices. Propylene glycol USP/EP (pharmaceutical grade) is one of the most widely used formulation-enabling substances. It is used in more than 4000 cosmetic products.

Propylene glycol USP/EP (pharmaceutical grade) provides lipstick with its consistent texture, preserves the homogenous constituency of body lotions containing both oil and water, maintains the long-term fragrance of perfumes, and ensures that shampoos foam nicely.

Applications of propylene glycolUSP/EP (pharmaceutical grade) incosmetics and toiletriesinclude products in:

  • personal care: bath and shower soaps, gels, face cleansers, shaving foams, after shave, antiperspirant deodorants, roll-ons, sticks, lipsticks, fragrances, perfumes

  • skin care: hand, body and facial moisturisers, sunscreen products

  • hair care: shampoos, conditioners, styling gels

Mono Propylene Glycol (MPG) USP

An ingredient found in many personal-care products like shampoo, hair conditioner, and styling product, propylene glycol is widely used because of its relatively low cost and versatile nature. Its inclusion in a formula can fulfill a variety of purposes, which makes it a popular choice by the cosmetics chemist.

The chemical facts about propylene glycol

  • It is water-soluble.

  • Itis synthetic.

  • Itis non-toxic.

  • Itis easily metabolized.

Propylene glycol (also known as 1, 2 propanediol) is a relatively small molecule with two alcohol (hydroxyl) groups (-OH). It is a colorless, odorless liquid that is completely water-soluble. PG is a synthetic product obtained from the hydration of propylene oxide, which is derived from petroleum products.

The FDA has categorized propylene glycol as Generally Recognized as Safe.

Even with prolonged direct exposure, there is little to no skin irritation or sensitization. It subsides quickly once the area is flushed. The MSDS recommends avoiding direct handling due to potential irritation, which is a smart recommendation for any chemicalthis is not an indication of the level of toxicity. Remember: in the chemical industry when a worker is exposed to continuous and large quantities of a chemical in its concentrated form, it is imperative to use the strongest safety precautions possible. This is not relevant to consumers using a product by the teaspoonful, if that.

Propylene glycol is non-toxic when ingested, even in reasonably large amounts.

Unlike its dangerous and frequently lethal cousin, ethylene glycol, PG is easily metabolized by the liver into normal products of the citric acid metabolic cycle, which are completely nontoxic to the body. Approximately 45 percent of any ingested PG is excreted directly from the body and never even comes into contact with the liver. The elimination half-life for propylene glycol is approximately four hours, and there is no bio accumulation (buildup in the body over time). A few rare incidents have occurred where a person ingested a large quantity of propylene glycol and suffered some liver and neurological effects as a result, but these were short-lived and subsided once the material was metabolized and excreted.

Raspberry Seed Oil Virgin

Virgin Raspberry Seed Oil is high in essential fatty acids and commonly used in the cosmetic and nutritional supplement industries. Omega 6 fatty acids are typically present at a level of 50-60%. It is naturally high in Tocopherols providing antioxidant activity. Topical application of Virgin Raspberry Seed Oil may help maintain skin softness and hydration.

Virgin Cold-Pressed Oil

Raspberry Seed Oil Virgin

Red Raspberry Seed Oil is cold pressed virgin oil and contains a high 50-60% of Essential Fatty Acids or EFAs, the most abundant of which are linoleic, alpha linolenic, and oleic acids. The composition of these omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids has been shown to reduce the effects of oxidative stress in skin.

Red raspberry seed oil is an excellentfree radicalscavenger andantioxidant, and a rich source of alpha and gamma tocopherol as well as y-tocopherol, along with carotenoides (Vitamin A). With a reported use for the prevention of rash, eczema and other skin lesions, it also has superior anti-inflammatory properties as compared to other well-known oils such as virgin avocado oil, grapeseed oil, hazelnut oil, and wheat germ oil (Oomah, et al 2000).

Notably, thesome studies also indicates red raspberry seed oil may have the potentialto act as a broad-spectrum UV-A and UV-B shield when used at full strength. According to the Oomah study, with a protection factor equal to titanium dioxide and a potential SPF between 28 50 for UVB and 6.5 7.5 for UVA, it may prove valuable in sun screen formulations. This was merely a study indicating some sunscreen potential, but it should, by no means, be relied upon without further independent testing. Red Raspberry Oil is a natural crop and, as such, its constituents can vary from batch to batch or harvest to harvest. As with any cosmetic raw material, any sunscreen benefits would have to be proven or disproven through sunscreen testing of any sunscreen formulation.

While red raspberry seed oil may be a valuable addition, claims for the SPF of products containing it should not be made without SPF testing of finished formulations through a certified lab as required by the FDA. One should also carefully consider the risk of using untested sunscreen products one might create, as final SPF of a formulation cannot be known without testing it, and, barring that, you could do yourself or others more harm than good.

We do not endorse or recommend that Red Raspberry Seed Oil be combined with Coconut Oil and Carrot Seed Oil as a DiY sunscreen. Without testing, it is impossible to know the SPF of such a combination and the use of untested sunscreen products can result in severe burns!

Red raspberry seed oil has a long shelf life due to its oxidative stability, making it an excellent oil for use in creams, lotions, lip balms, salves and other anhydrous formulations.

Our Red Raspberry Seed Oil is cold pressed and cold filtered throughdiatomaceous earth(DE). It is not refined, deodorized, decolorized or otherwise treated.

This product, while considered a food grade oil, is repackaged for cosmetic use and is for external use only. It is not sold or intended for consumption.

Borax Powder

From homemade detergents to ant killer, Borax (also known as sodium tetraborate) has become a staple for the do-it-yourselfer interested in finding their own all-natural solutions to everyday obstacles.

Dissolve Borax and sugar into some boiling water to make an effective ant killer that takes advantage of Boraxs ability to completely dissolve in water. The web is full of recipes for making your own dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent/laundry detergent booster as well as other niche applications for Borax that you would never think of.

Borax was first widely available when hauled out of the dry lake beds of Nevada and California by a large team of Mules, thus making it cheap and plentiful enough to be widely available for use. Try mixing 1 tablespoon of Borax with 1 tablespoon of baking soda and placing in your dishwashers detergent compartment. The mild abrasiveness of both ingredients will blast away tough deposits on your dishes and save you money. Borax is one of the most commonly used ingredients in detergents used in the detergent manufacturing industry today. Experiment and find an online recipe for making your own laundry detergent that will soften and clean clothes as well as the expensive store bought brands. Mix with lemon juice to create a safe, inexpensive rust remover.

Want an extremely effective window cleaner? Try mixing Borax with ammonia and water and take advantage of Boraxs mild abrasiveness to clean windows to a sparkling shine. Drop 3 tablespoons into your garbage disposal and let it set for 15 minutes to deodorize and clean. Simply mix with warm water and use to rinse out the inside of your refrigerator to remove musty/moldy smells. Soak candle wicks in a mixture of Borax, salt and water to reduce smoke and ash in your homemade candle creations.

Add 1 cups of Borax to every 5 pounds of kitty litter to help deodorize and freshen your cats litter box. Borax can be used to neutralize urine odors. Indeed the potential uses for Borax around the home are limitless. Its industrial use is equally as astonishing. According to Wikipedia it can also be used for:
