As mentioned above, driving lights are called driving lamps and most often headlights. What they are called is dependent on the region youre in, but regardless of what they are called, they are designed for one specific purpose, which is to illuminate the road in front of the vehicle in low light and darkness. Depending on the vehicles age and style, the driving lights will be different. Throughout most of the 20th century, headlights were large, one-piece incandescent and halogen bulbs that simply plugged into a receptacle on the face of the vehicle. Beginning in the 1990s to the present, many companies have changed the design to a driving light housing permanently fixed to the vehicle, and a smaller but more intense replaceable halogen or xenon lamp inserted into the housing.
