The UDMLC is a series of small footprint EtherCAT modules with dual quad-axis universal drives for servo, stepper, and voice coil motors with a power range of 10W to 200W. The type of motor is selected by the user and can be set differently for each drive.

This product addresses the needs of demanding multi-axis motion applications with limited space, such as moving inspection heads, small manipulators, and table-top motion stages. The miniature size, low weight, and minimal cable interface makes the SPiiPlusUDMLC ideal for mounting remotely on moving axes. It is available in three current levels (cont.peak per axis): 1.252.5A, 2.55A or 510A (dual axis version only), and has inputs for four digital incremental and two absolute encoders.

The unit is powered by a 12 to 48Vdc motor bus voltage supply and by a separate 15 to 48Vdc control supply that keeps all logic signals alive during emergency conditions. The UDMLC is panel or din rail mountable.

The Lexium MDrive Pulsedirection input is an integrated motor + driver with numerous enhanced features for a complete motion control solution.

Communications interface

The LMDxP uses an isolated RS-422485 communication interface with selectable BAUD rate ranging from 4.8 to 115 kilobits per second via a standard 9-pin D-subminiature connector. An optional USB to RS-422485 Comm converter with cable is available and is compatible with all 32 and 64 bit operating systems.

Power and IO

DC power and the IO are interfaced via robust locking connectors: a 2-pin screw lock connector for power, and a pair of 7-pin spring-clamp terminal blocks with side-locking tabs for IO.

The isolated IO bank consists of +5 to +24 VDC inputs for step, direction and bridge enabledisable, one (1) 5.5 mA Attention output, a 12-bit analog input and six TTL level differential encoder outputs, which are not isolated. The clock and direction inputs may be programmable to multiple clock types in software, either pulsedirection, quadrature or CWCCW.

Sealed linear encoders from HEIDENHAIN are protected from dust, chips and splash fluids and are ideal for operation on machine tools. An aluminum housing and elastic sealing lips protect the scale, scanning carriage and guideway from chips, swarf, dirt and splashwater The scanning carriage travels in a low-friction guide within the scale unit. It is connected to the external mounting block by a coupling that compensates unavoidable misalignment between the scale and the machine guideways. Sealed linear encoders are available with full-size scale housings for high resistance to vibration up to 30 m measuring length, as well as slimline scale housing for limited installation space up to 2040 mm measuring length.

ACS SPiiPlusEC is a state of the art line of Motion controllers and EtherCAT master.

It is specifically designed to extend the capabilities of the SPiiPlus line of controllers and EtherCAT master, to address the needs of modern machinery for cost effective high performance multi-axis, scalable and distributed control of motion centric applications. The SPiiPlusEC open architecture operates in conjunction with ACS line of EtherCAT servo and step motor drives and IOs modules, as well as with any certified third party EtherCAT module that complies with CAN over EtherCAT (CoE) protocol. The unique optional feature increases machines uptime using ring topology based redundancy to continue operation upon a network failure.

The SPiiPlusEC EtherCAT cycle and profile generation rate is 1 to 5kHz. ACS drives execute the servo control algorithms at a 20kHz rate using a distributed clock to ensure synchronization of better than 0.1 microsecond between all axes.

The SPiiPlusEC is complemented by the SPiiPlusNT suite of software tools that are designed to minimize time to market and to address the specific machine requirements throughout its whole life cycle.
