It is known, from Meteorological Office Records, that in the United Kingdom, we can expect to "enjoy" 1, 500 hours of bright sunshine every single year. Enjoyable, that is, if you are simply planning to have a break from the office and do your own thing - not so, if you are tied to your desk trying to do a job of work. Taking London (at 51.7° North) as an easily located example, the potential heat gain through vertical glazing is comparable to that experienced in the Middle East. During Spring and Autumn, they are much on a par and during peak summer months, London is exposed to a full 35% additional solar energy than say Jeddah or Riyadh. The challenge is simple but equally daunting when you accept the fact that every 1.4m² of glazing can effectively transmit heat at the same rate as a 1 kW single bar electric fire. The standard louvre system offers a range of high performance extruded aluminium louvres with comprehensive framing systems to suit all applications including glazing, curtain walling, integrated facades and architectural cladding systems. The system is available in 60, 80 and 100mm pitches and may be supplied in interlocking, continuous or modular formats with pre-assembled mullions and metal clips. The unique aerofoil blade of the smooth-flow louvre system provides for a pleasing architectural feature which at the same time offers enhanced aerodynamic and weathering performance. Extremely versatile, smooth-flow louvres can be installed into any configuration of wall facade. It also acts as a visually attractive screening system. An important feature of the smooth-flow design is that it allows water to drain completely from both sides of the blade - there is no ridge or receptacle that can allow an unsightly silt pool to form or where potentially lethal bacteria could contaminate the ventilation system. The system is available in 50, 80 and 100mm pitches and may be supplied in continuous form with pre-assembled mullions and metal clips. It is also available in modular and interlocking formats.
