X-RAY SHIELDING GLASS

LX-57B X-Ray shielding lead glass offers excellent radiation protection and superb visual clarity. The polished surfaces are scratch resistant and LX-57B does not discolor due to radiation. LX-57B X-Ray shielding glass comes in three thicknesses.

KEY FEATURES



  • High quality optical grade lead barium type X-Ray lead glass
  • Contains over 60% heavy metal oxide, including at least 55% PbO
  • Surfaces are mirror polished
  • Excellent for use in medical facilities, laboratories, airports, and screens for radiation
  • Available in 3 thicknesses, LX7 (7 mm) is used in most X-Ray radiation applications, LX9 (9 mm) and LX15 (15 mm) are used in cancer fluoroscopic treatment, etc.
LX7 may be installed in a double assembly for greater protection. Please call for further details.
Note: For applications requiring safety-impact resistant glazing, LX-57B is available with a surface applied film and in a laminated configuration.



Surface Hardness

LX-57B glass surfaces are mirror polished. Using Moh's hardness scale, LX-57B tests at Level 6 (comparable to feldspar, a constituent of granite). Acrylic tests at Level 3 (equivalent to calcite, a constituent of limestone and chalk).

GAMMA RAY SHIELDING GLASS

Pro-GR lead shielding glass was developed to protect against high radiation gamma rays used in PET scan facilities. Pro-GR is made of glass materials having a lead oxide content rate of roughly 70% that is equivalent to ultra-high lead content block glass for nuclear power facilities. Pro-GR has a radiation shielding capability higher than that of conventional LX-57B.

STATISTICS
Shielding Performance Against Gamma Rays

In calculating the shielding performance of Pro-GR against 0.511 MeV gamma rays, the Monte Carlo simulation is used to calculate the build-up factor of Pro-GR glass, and calculates the effective dose transmission factor in accordance with the Manual for Shielding Calculation of Radiation Facilities, 2000 (issued by the Nuclear Safety Technology Center). In calculating the lead equivalent of Pro-GR, the thickness of Pro-GR was designed so that the effective dose transmission factor is equivalent to the effective dose transmission factor of lead calculated by taking the build-up factor into account as shown in the following table.
