Optical Sensor

Optical sensors use the technology of conversion of light into an electrical signal to sense various parameters. Fiber optic sensors use fibre optic technology to transmit light through fibre cables before conversion. Optical sensors can be used for various applications such as flow, movement, displacement, liquid level, rotation etc. For measuring all these parameters, a light source generates a light and a receiver monitors the generated light. Depending on the parameter to be measured, there will be variation in the measured light and thus can be proportionately measured. Proximity sensors use optical sensing technology by measuring the distance between the light source and the reflected object. Proximity sensor is used for detecting the distance between two objects typically between a stationery object and a moving object.

Environment sensor

Environment sensors are for measuring various parameters of an environment including tem perature, humidity, pressure etc. either for indoor or outdoors. This can be indoor applications such as a data center or server room. Also, a major outdoor application is monitoring the weather. Environment sensors Even though there are a huge number of parameters to be measured in the environment, the classification environment sensors hugely refer to temperature and humidity of the atmosphere. Also common environment elements such as Carbon dioxide, Oxygen and Carbon Monoxide are sometimes referred under this category, which is separately detailed by us in our page on Gas sensors. Environment sensors for Data centres and server rooms An environment monitoring system is commonly referred to a monitoring system for data centres and server rooms. For these applications, we need to constantly monitor and record various parameters such as temperature, humidity, light, smoke, fire, door opening, power failure, water leakage etc. So this system has to monitor the entire environment inside the data centre or server room. Hence customers commonly refer an environment monitoring system for these applications. We provide standalone systems which can work even in the case of a power failure. Normal systems are connected to a server and will not work if there is a network problem, loss of WiFi connection etc. However, our system will continue to work and will provide a phone call and SMS alert even in the case of a total power failure. In the case of escalation of any of the parameters, it will give phone calls to 4 operators and also can deliver a customised recorded voice message. We provide two versions of the system viz. network connected system and standalone system. The standalone system operates through a SIM card and also can be connected to a battery backup. In both the cases, the customer can remotely view the current parameters over the internet. We can also provide a remote control system to send signals to the data centre to control different actions such as change the temperature setting, switch on a dehumidifier etc. You may see our model SKU-VAC-ES-154 in this image which are for data centres and server rooms. Thermocouple

Thermocouple sensors consist of two different metals and is used for measuring temperatures. This is the basic form of temperature sensors utilized for all type of temperature measurement. Different metal combinations usually used are NickelPlatinum, PlatinumRhodium, Tungsten alloy etc. It does not need any external voltage. The principle is that it produces a small voltage in proportion to the temperature which can then be converted into a digital signal. This voltage will be proportionate to the temperature. This can be displayed on a display device. A combination of two different metals produces a small voltage based on the variation in temperature. The voltage so generated can be termed as Thermoelectric voltage. Since this is a minute electric voltage, there is a limitation on the length of the cables in relation to the accuracy of the measurement. For longer distances, the accuracy is compromised. Hence it is preferred that the instrument is properly calibrated after installation to account for such corrections. Proper compensating cables are used to obtain more accurate results.

Electrical Current sensor

For measuring current in low voltage AC and DC circuits, current sensors are used. The current rating of up to 250 A can be measured using these sensors. Split core type sensors are easy to be mounted across current carrying  conductors by opening the core of the sensor. Similar to voltage sensors, there are also available with 4-20 mA output and digital outputs suitable for automation purposes. For the selection of current sensors, you have to determine the current to be measured, the direction of current (unidirectional or bidirectional), output signals required etc. Hall Effect sensor & Hall sensor for measuring current Hall Effect sensor is a type of current sensor named after the inventor Edwin Hall. The major component is the hall device which measures the current utilising the Hall Effect and produce proportional output signals. The basic principle is the measurement of magnetic flux density which is in proportion to the associated current. Water leakage sensor

Water leakage sensor is commonly used for keeping a watch on water leakage and moisture accumulation in critical areas such as data centres, server room etc. Other major uses of water leakage sensors are detecting leakage of pipes, tanks etc. The sensor consists of a conductive wire or strips laid out in the area to be monitored. Typically stainless steel, copper etc. are used as sensor wires. The operating principle is that the resistance of the conductor varies upon detecting water. By measuring the current passing  through the sensor, the water leakage can be detected. There are different models of sensors which can be connected to an IP-based remote monitoring system and can generate email, SMS or phone call alerts. Water level sensors & liquid level sensors for storage tanks Various level sensors are used to detect the level of a liquid commonly inside a tank. Water level sensor is one of the most common types of such sensors. Different liquid sensors are used to detect the level. One of the oldest types of water level detector is a float which is a simple level with an air-filled float at the end of it. Water level sensors of modern technology are a non-touch type, implying that the sensors will not touch water or the liquid. One such technology is ultrasound which consists of a transmitter and receiver mounted at the top of the tank. The transmitter generates ultrasonic waves towards the bottom of the tank. The sound waves get reflected the top of the liquid and bounces back to the receiver which is adjacent to the transmitter. The speed of the waves and time taken from the moment the ultrasonic wave is generated and the time it is received back at the receiver gives an easy calculation of the distance from the transmitter to the top of the liquid The advantage is that this type can be used for very tall tanks and even for liquids which are corrosive in nature. All level sensor will have electrical outputs for displaying the readings and switching circuits will be provided for switching circuits.

Piezoelectric sensor

Piezoelectric sensor for mechanical forces & vibration Piezoelectric sensor utilises piezoelectric effect to measure mechanical forces such as pressure, vibration etc. Piezoelectric crystals convert mechanical energy into electric energy and vice versa. When a pressure is applied to a piezoelectric crystal, a proportional electric voltage is generated. Similarly, when an electrical voltage is applied across the crystal, a proportionate mechanical energy is developed. Piezoelectric sensors are manufactured such piezoelectric crystals. These sensors are generally used to measure sudden mechanical variations, vibrations and fluctuations and these are not suitable for continuous forces. Light Sensor

Light sensor products for energy conservation and home automation The lights of a house or office can be controlled through light sensors by measuring the available natural light inside the area. Light sensors will measure the lux level of the room (measurement of light) and will give out put signals to increase or decrease the electrical lights using dimmers.
