Molybdenum Disulfide

Our premium ranges of Molybdenum Disulfide is black crystalline sulfide of molybdenum occurs as the mineral molybdenite. It is the principal ore from which molybdenum metal is extracted. MoS2 is relatively unreactive, being unaffected by dilute acids and oxygen. In its appearance and feel, molybdenum disulfide is similar to graphite. Indeed, like graphite, it is widely used as a solid lubricant because of its low friction properties and robustness.

Applications:

Lubricant
MoS2 with particle sizes in the range of 1100 m is a common dry lubricant. Few alternatives exist that can confer the high lubricity and stability up to 350 C in oxidizing environments. Sliding friction tests of MoS2 using a pin on disc tester at low loads (0.12 N) give friction coefficient values of 0.1.

Molybdenum disulfide is often a component of blends and composites where low friction is sought. A variety of oils and greases are used, because they retain their lubricity even in cases of almost complete oil loss, thus finding a use in critical applications such as aircraft engines. When added toplastics, MoS2 forms a composite with improved strength as well as reduced friction. Polymers that have been filled with MoS2 include nylon (with the trade name Nylatron), Teflon, and Vespel. Self-lubricating composite coatings for high-temperature applications have been developed consisting of molybdenum disulfide and titanium nitride by chemical vapor deposition.

Examples of some diverse applications of MoS2-based lubricants include two-stroke engines (e.g., motorcycle engines), automotive CV and universal joints, ski waxes, and even somebullets.

Petroleum refining
MoS2 is employed as a catalyst for desulfurization in petroleum refineries; e.g., hydrodesulfurization. The effectiveness of the MoS2 catalysts is enhanced by doping with small amounts of cobalt or nickel and the intimate mixture is supported on alumina. Such catalysts are generated in situ by treating molybdate/cobalt or nickel-impregnated alumina with H2S or an equivalent reagent.

Electronics
Sheets of MoS2 can be produced using chemical vapor deposition. Unlike graphene, MoS2 has a bandgap, essential for making transistors. A switchable transistor based on single-layer MoS2has been described.

Overbased Calcium Petroleum Sulphonate TBN 400

We are engaged in offering our customers a wide collection of Overbased Calcium Petroleum Sulphonate TBN 400 that are used in various selected industrial and metalworking applications in varied concentrations of 10% to 22% by weight. Available at market leading prices, our range is gained appreciation from the clients due to its accurate composition, purity, longer shelf life.

Overbased Calcium Petroleum Sulphonate TBN 400 has the advantages of excellent neutralization power & high temperature detergency and rust preventive property. It can be mainly used for blending high and medium grade lubricating oil used in internal combustion engines, marines Diesel generating set and the engines which use fuel with high sulphur content so that lacquer and carbon residue deposits accumulated in the combustion chamber of the engines are not only greatly reduced, but also the cleanliness of the pistons can be maintained. Corrosion to the engine parts by acidic matters also can be prevented and its service time can be prolonged. Better compounding synergistic effect can be obtained with the addition of ash less dispersant, anti-oxidant and corrosion inhibitor. The quantity of the product to be added into lubricating oil is from 1.5% to 3.0% in formulating engine oil and 5 to 10 % in formulating Marine engine oils. It can be successfully incorporated in Rust Preventive oils formulation to combat acid fume environment as well as Salty atmosphere protections.

Sodium Petroleum Sulphonate

Sodium Petroleum Sulphonates are unique materials because of their dual function as surfactants and rust inhibitors. The polar nature of the sulphonate end of the molecule functions as a typical anionic surfactant, orienting itself with water or other polar materials while the hydrocarbon tail provides the bridge to non polar phase.

Applications:

  • Metalworking fluids
  • Anti Corrosion compounds
  • Ore floatation
  • Demulsifiers
  • Motor oil and fuel additives
  • Overbasing
